In 2013 renowned Kwakwakawakw artist Chief Beau Dick and companions travelled first from Quatsino to Victoria, and then in 2014 from Vancouver to Parliament Hill in Ottawa. Both trips culminated in traditional copper breaking ceremonies, marking the symbolic transference of the burden of colonial violence from Indigenous peoples to colonial governments.
