Description
It is marked QUART and on the other side of the handle VR 352 (which was the locale CHECK mark for Kent used from 1879 I understand - so the "then" Government equivalent to Weights and Measures has done a check that the measure was accurate) - which only means it was checked at that time - my research indicates the piece was a design used from the William IV era onwards - so most likely an 1840s piece
Inscribed across the base edge of the jug is Micawber The Ever Expectant
incised with horses with applied beads and scroll work by Hannah Barlow and Florence Roberts (signed to base of vase)
The book had a major influence on the literary community
