Dedicated in 1974, it was the first temple built by the church east of the Mississippi River since 1846. It's modern six spire design was intended to be similar in style and form to the Salt Lake Temple so that it would be easily recognized as a temple of the Church. Three towers each on the east and west represent the Melchizedek and Aaronic
