The firm was originally established by Thomas law in the mid 18th century and was succeeded by Henry Atkin and John Oxley trading as Atkin, Oxley & Co. In 1840 Henry Atkin continued to trade alone as Henry Atkin & Co., Sheffield. After his death his brothers Harry, Edwin and Frank continued the business as Atkin
